how is this program different?

Our minds have a lot to answer for. They have their uses when needing to recall information quickly or memorise something, but then we really want to be getting out of our minds, because a life lived in the mind is most often one of anxiety and stress. Anxiety is a fear of something happening in the future and is created in our minds where it lives and is replayed until said future event comes, which is rarely ever as terrible as our minds imagined it to be. And, that’s why using our minds to help us get rid of anxiety often creates more of it. Unlike many traditional ways of working on anxiety, this program does not use the mind but instead works on helping your child to get out of their mind and into the present moment where there is rarely ever a real problem.

Decreasing anxiety without hours of therapy or talking about their feelings.

After working in groups with many young people in 2022, talking about their feelings in front of each other is really difficult for them, and why some dislike talking therapies altogether. Whilst I am a great believer in the power of talking, I’ve come to realise it’s not the only way to work through anxiety, and so I’ve created a new program for 2023 that helps your child decrease their anxiety and increase their happiness without having to talk about the past or share their feelings, unless of course they want to, and they have a private space with me in which to do that if they choose to.

This group program combines mindfulness, meditation, movement and creative coaching to teach your child to not be consumed by their thoughts, to decrease their stress levels and to take charge of their own mental health in the way that feels most fun for them.

If your child would also like to talk in a 1:1 environment, there is the opportunity for them to book a private session or two with me during the program, but it’s not compulsory, and they can book this if and when they feel they need it.

By working with me, your child will

  • Feel less anxious in new situations.
  • Have the confidence to try.
  • Stop unfairly comparing themselves to others.
  • Know how to harness their inner self-confidence.
  • Build their self-esteem.
  • Find their self-acceptance.
  • Feel happier.

AND NOT JUST THAT BUT…

  • Build new healthy habits.
  • Love the person they are.
  • Become their own best friend and biggest cheerleader.
  • Improve their relationships and friendships.
  • Increase their motivation.
  • Feel more positive all round.

WHAT'S INCLUDED

  • 5x one hour in person group sessions (small groups) involving mindfulness, meditation, creative coaching techniques and most importantly fun!
  • Opportunity to book 2×30-minute private Zoom sessions with me.
  • Fun challenges between sessions to help your child implement what they’re learning.
  • Opportunity to book one parent/carer 30-minute private Zoom session with me to learn new strategies to support your child in overcoming their anxiety.

but don't young people find meditation BORING?

Mediation isn’t just sitting cross-legged on a cushion in silence. There are a million different ways to meditate, and many that don’t involve sitting still or having your eyes closed. The idea of meditation is simply to detach from your mind and enjoy being in the present moment. Detaching from your mind is the fastest way to decrease anxiety.

WILL MY CHILD FIND MINDFULNESS TOO SLOW?

Mindfulness isn’t about doing things slowly, it’s about doing things with awareness and focus. With that in mind, living more mindfully can help your child to complete tasks faster because their mind is focused on what they are doing and not being distracted.

MY CHILD DOESN'T LIKE TO LISTEN TO THEIR THOUGHTS.

We are not here to listen to and explore our thoughts like many traditional ways of working through anxiety, instead we are here to find the space between the thoughts and enjoy the present moment. The feeling of calm that comes from this is priceless.

MY CHILD might have TOO MUCH ENERGY FOR THIS.

Many of us have a nervous energy from having to be constantly “on” and striving for something. The pressure on young people to do well in their education or to keep up with their friends is immense, this nervous energy keeps them busy and in a constant loop of anxiety. This energy is not sustainable over time and impacts your child’s mental, emotional and physical health. Slowing down is one of the keystones to decreasing anxiety.

I'M NOT SURE IF MY CHILD HAS ENOUGH TIME FOR THIS?

How much of your child’s time is currently being taken up by their anxiety? Aside from the one-hour sessions, the rest of the work fits in with the things they are already doing.

At the height of my health anxiety, I was wasting 14 hours a week on doctor google. I now use that 14 hours to do the things I enjoy.

My child won't like doing this work in a group

This program, unlike my others, does not involve your child sharing how they feel in a group setting, unless they want to. Sharing is always welcomed, but not essential in this program.  When young people work in groups they get to see that they are not alone in their struggles and that can be both liberating and calming for them.

About me

KELLY RAE PARKER

I was that shy, quiet child who never spoke in class and constantly worried what others thought of her. Who was bullied, struggled to make friends, and found speaking in class and to her peers almost impossible. And, who suffered with crippling health anxiety into adulthood. However, now things couldn't be more different. Despite being told at 16 that I was too old for a career in dance, I went on to dance professionally and eventually run and teach at my own dance school specialising in ballet, tap and modern. Whilst teaching dance, I realised my passion and ability for helping young people to overcome anxiety, grow in self-confidence, and start to believe in themselves. I passed my dance school on at the end of 2020 to become a qualified student life coach specialising in helping young people to let go of anxiety and increase their self-confidence, so that they can become the happiest version of themselves. I don't believe that working on anxiety has to be a long, hard road full of hours of therapy and medication. Whilst in some circumstances they may well have their place, I am living proof that it can be done without these things. Most often there is actually so much we can do naturally, and most importantly, it can be really fun!

Your child has everything they need to overcome their anxiety inside them, let's give them the skills to do it.
